SUS304 Stainless Steel Tubing Sizes Mandatory Testing

• Heat Analysis. Performed on test ingot taken during pouring of heat. Conformance with chemical composition table (as A 240) is required.

• Transverse Tension Test. One test made to represent each lot. A lot is pipe of the same grade, welded to the same procedure and with a common heat treatment. The maximum lot size is 200 ft (60 m) of pipe.

• Transverse Guided-Bend Weld Test. One test, two specimens will be tested for each lot.

• Hydrostatic Test. Each pipe will be tested unless agreed by purchaser.

• Radiographic Examination. Classes 1,3 and 4 will have all welded joints radiographically examined. Class 5 pipe will be spot radiographic tested over not less than 12 in (300 mm) in each 50 ft (15 m) of pipe. This examination may be prior to heat treatment.

Optional and Supplementary Requirements

• Passivating Treatment may be requested by purchaser.

• Circumferential Welds may be permitted by purchaser.

• Filler Metal. High alloy filler metal may be specified for improved corrosion resistance.

• Repair of Plate Defects may be authorised. S1 Product Analysis. Each length of pipe will be

• analysed.

• S1 Tension and Bend Tests. Test will be made on specimens to represent each length of pipe.

• S1 Penetrant Oil and Powder Test. All welded joints will be examined by a penetrant oil and powder method. Methods to be agreed between purchaser and vendor.

• S1 Ferrite Control in Weld Deposits. Ferrite content of the deposited weld metal will be determined using a method agreed between

• S1 Stabilising Heat Treatment. Grades 321, 347 and 348 can be given a stabilisation heat treatment at a temperature lower than that used for the initial solution annealing heat treatment. Temperature to be agreed between purchaser and vendor.

• S1 Intergranular Corrosion Test. Performed in accordance with Practice A 262, Practice E.

• S5 may be necessary to meet this requirement for grades containing Titanium or Niobium.

- S24565 is not listed in ASTM A 240. The UNS designation may be S34565, if ASTM A 358 is in error.

1 Transverse tension tests across welded joint specimens ensure the tensile strength is not less than the minimum specified for the plate in ASTM A 240/A 240M. Values in this table are therefore extracted from A 240.
